Don’t get me wrong, I am all for saving money but not at the expense of doing things properly. If you are buying or selling property, do yourself a favor and make sure you have an attorney that is familiar with the regulations and laws that may affect your real estate transaction. It’s what they do and usually, it’s all they do. Finding the proper real estate attorney is not difficult and in most cases the Realtor you are working with will more than likely be able to point you in the right direction. One other thing you may consider, let one attorney handle both sides of the transaction. When this occurs the attorney represents both parties on a limited basis. This means that he is responsible to both parties in assuring that the transactional part of the contract is both reliable and unbiased. If the deal is straight forward, often time’s one attorney can cut not only the cost, but the time involved, if time is of the essence. However, if the transaction is a bit more convoluted or falls into the category of commercial, individual representation is the more prudent path to take. Once a realtor has recommended an attorney, take the time to investigate and insure that he is the one for you. Ask around, check the internet, if there is a problem with an attorney’s credibility, word of mouth and or the internet will bring those issues to light. Call him and ask him what his fees will be, a few moments can save you money.
Take those few extra minutes and do your homework, it will serve you well. If you have any questions concerning local attorneys, or real estate in general, give us a call, we will be glad to help.
